Twelve Congolese fishermen were copiously beaten up by the Ugandan navy on the waters of Lake Edouard in North Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The information is delivered to 24newsagency.com by Aimé Mbusa Mukanda, one of the notables of the Rutshuru territory who says that in addition to these tortured fishermen, four outboard motors were taken away by the Ugandan navy.
“On the night of Monday 16 February to Wednesday 17 February 2021, on the waters of Lake Edouard, 12 Congolese fishermen were beaten up. Four outboard motors were swept away by the Ugandan incivilities. As a reminder, four Congolese fishermen have been languishing in the central prison of Katwe in Uganda for more than a year and the information in our possession tells us that they will be released on 11 March,” he said.
The noteworthy indicates that the lake boundaries are still at the root of the mesatentes between the Congolese fishermen and the Ugandan navy. Rutshuru’s notables are calling on the government to regulate fishing in the waters of Lake Edouard to put an end to this situation.
