Seven candidates have been selected to run for the presidential race next March in the Republic of Congo. They are Denis Sassou N’Guesso, Guy Brice Parfait Kolelas, Mathias Dzon, Albert Oniangué, Joseph Kignoumbi Kia-Mboungou, Dave Uphrem Mafoula and Anguios Nganguia-Engambé.

Michel Mboussi Ngouari’s application was invalidated for not having fulfilled the required conditions. In fact, some documents are missing from his file which were not found in the composition of the file sent to the court. Moreover, the court noted an inconsistency between the signatures affixed to the different files.

According to the information site of the Central Africa Information Agency, the Constitutional Court also recalled in accordance with Article 176 of the Constitution its role to ensure the regularity of the election of the President of the Republic.

Thus, said its president, Auguste Iloki, the judge in charge of electoral disputes considers that examining the candidacy files for the election of the president of the Republic, in order to draw up the final list, is part of the control of the regularity of the said election.

It should be recalled that President Denis Sassou Nguesso who is standing for re-election as President of the Republic, has a largely favourable share, with an assessment based precisely on the stability of the country despite the multiple crises his country is facing.

His experience is considered by a good number of observers as an asset that will enable him to take over and continue to lead the country for the next 5 years.
