A convoy of the World Food Programme, WFP, was attacked Monday morning in an ambush near the place called « 3 antennae » territory of Nyiragongo, near Goma in North Kivu.
Barometer of Goma informs that the Italian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Luca Attanasio, who was part of the convoy, was killed along with his two collaborators including a driver and one of his close guards, said MONUSCO sources who tried in vain to transport them to the UN sanitary facilities in Goma.
Pending communication from his country and the European Union, the local authorities who condemn this act call for an urgent investigation to establish responsibilities and to secure the stretch.
It should be remembered that the tragedy took place in the same place where the British tourists were kidnapped two years ago.
