Clashes between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and militiamen of the armed group Cooperative for the Development of Congo (CODECO) were reported on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 February 2021 about 25 kilometres from the town of Bunia, capital of Ituri province.

It is Lieutenant Jules Ngongo, army spokesman in the operational sector Ituri who said it was when the attackers were surprised by loyalist forces that the fighting broke out. He speaks of nine (9) CODECO elements neutralised by the FaRDC.

In addition to this assessment, two AK-47 type weapons and several rounds of ammunition were recovered by the regular forces. Jules Ngongo indicates that the objective of the operations conducted these days in Ituri province is to put an end to the threat against the town of Bunia and its surroundings.
