At least 23 hostages were freed by Ugandan rebels of allied democratic forces (ADF) in 24 hours in the locality of Ndalya, an entity located in the chiefdom of Walese Vonkutu, Irumu territory in Ituri province.

According to Christophe Munyanderu, coordinator of the Irumu branch of the NGO-DH Convention for the Respect of Human Rights (CRDH), these civilians were abducted during the attack on the village of Ndalya on Sunday 14 February 2021 where at least 18 people were killed by the attackers.

The resource person indicates that the conditions for the release of these civilians are not yet known.

It should be noted that the security situation remains volatile in most of Irumu territory, characterised by attacks by armed groups on several villages. As a result of this situation, some inhabitants are moving to safe areas.
